The Jordan, a place where every inhabitant of Amsterdam feels at home and where every inhabitant recognizes himself. Plenty of songs have been sung about it, and it may just be one of the most well known neighbourhoods of The Netherlands. The neighbourhood was originally built for the less wealthy among us, but today it is the favourite place for students, artists and young entrepreneurs. Jordan is a place that lives and where you can find everything, whether it’s history, shopping or nightlife. The district is located west of the canal and is within walking distance of Central Station, Dam Square and the Leidseplein. An ideal location to get to know Amsterdam very well, and to get you in the midst of Amsterdam inhabitants. The Jordan is part of the Amsterdam city centre and is a typical working-class neighbourhood. The romance of Amsterdam can certainly be found in the Jordan. 11 canals, including the Rozengracht, Lauriergracht, Elandsgracht and Passeerdersgracht, and 19 courtyards make the Jordan itself typical Amsterdam. The fact that the Jordan is mentioned in various songs is not completely crazy, because many Dutch artists come from here. Alberts, René Froger and Lil’Kleine, among others, were born in the Jordan. . The world famous Rembrandt van Rijn lived on the Rozengracht, a plaque can be found in the current house arranged as a memorial.
